Bird Palace Medallion is a seamless ornamental pattern inspired by tropical folklore that imitate devotional imagery.
Each medallion reads like a miniature altar: a central floral stem rises symmetrically, bearing heart (physalis style)-shaped fruits and layered leaves, while two birds perch at the summit, evoking themes of guardianship, harmony, and abundance. The oval frames, with their scalloped red borders and turquoise interiors, recall antique cameos, ex-voto ornaments, or palace wall decorations.
Between the medallions, eye-shaped floral rosettes punctuate the composition, adding a subtle sense of protection and mysticism, while reinforcing the rhythmic spacing of the repeat.

This pattern as a much simpler construction than the rest of the collection. I started to build the collection with a few heros patterns then I needed to include lays out with more air circulating, with less intertwine and overlaps. Here is one
The repeat is evenly spaced and balanced, maintaining that way a steady visual cadence. Elephants and grazing zebras move calmly beneath towering fan palms, whose radiating leaves form a repeating, structure across the surface.
The animals, rendered with gentle textures, give the pattern a calm, illustrative look.

EN: I usually make postcards with my completed seamless pattern designs, this one was created the other way round. As I was playing with the elements from “green cathedral / jungle” collection (started with first black and white sketches then transformed and stored into colorized and illustrated image bank dedicated for the theme of the collection), so… this time I first created a non repeat pattern on a postcard format. I quite liked the carte so I designed a similar layout for a scattered medium tight upward repeat pattern.
FR: J’ai l’habitude de réaliser des cartes postales à partir de mes motifs sans raccord finalisés. Pour celui-ci, le processus s’est fait dans l’autre sens. En jouant avec les éléments de la collection « Green Cathedral / Jungle » (d’abord des esquisses en noir et blanc, puis transformées et archivées dans une banque d’images illustrées et mises en couleur dédiée au thème de la collection), j’ai d’abord composé un motif non répétitif au format carte postale. La carte m’ayant plu, j’ai ensuite conçu une configuration réutilisant les mêmes éléments pour faire un motif à répétition assez dense, orienté vers le haut.

Tropical botanical repeat where stems, leaves, blossoms, and pods interlock into a continuous decorative canopy. Vertical Heliconian bracts in warm spice tones anchor the composition while airy hanging florals and layered foliage thread between them, creating a rhythmic rise-and-fall. Small butterflies and clustered berries add scale contrast and visual punctuation, reinforcing the feeling of a living garden rather than isolated motifs.
The aesthetic is a refined fusion of botanical illustration and contemporary graphic design. The primary motifs include stylized Heliconia (Lobster Claw) bracts in warm terracotta and amber, contrasted by cascading pale pink inflorescences and lush, teal-tinted emerald foliage.

FR: Il s’agit d’un motif floral tropical structuré en mouvement ascendant, mettant en scène des fleurs de type héliconia qui forment de véritables « colonnes de jardin », des épis, sorte de goupillons texturés et des papillons virevoltants disposés avec légèreté pour une composition vivante. La densité est moyenne, équilibrées par de petites fleurs, des fleurs en bouton (sorte de cosses) et des papillons qui viennent combler les espaces et assurent un rythme harmonieux.
Le design déploie une palette fraîche de bleu sarcelle, corail, terracotta et lilas, créant une ambiance de « jungle moderne » qui se module et se transforme selon la couleur du fond.

The first mental image I had when I began imagining a seamless jungle pattern collection was a design that captures the essence of a lush, vibrant natural environment. When carefully tiled, the composition connects perfectly at the edges without visible breaks, creating a continuous and immersive flow of the forest scene.
Within the framework of this collection, I developed my initial dense vision of overlapping jungle elements into a range of compositions: some intricately intertwined, others rising upward, and others scattered into organic clusters. Each variation explores a distinct rhythm while remaining rooted in the same immersive landscape.
The collection takes its name from a quotation by Alejo Carpentier in The Lost Steps (1953), where he evokes a “green cathedral” stretching endlessly — “an ocean of foliage where shadow and light, silence and tumult mingle.” I was drawn to this idea of the jungle as a living memory of the world.
I imagined a poetic, almost naïve exotic space inspired by artists such as Henri Rousseau, yet without imaginary creatures. The vegetation is lush, the fauna and floral details vibrant, but the drawing retains a detailed, slightly textured realism. At times it recalls traditional illustrations from a cabinet of curiosities; at others, simplified and stylized lines with vivid colors create a distinctly contemporary energy.
Nothing here is dark or threatening. This jungle is luminous, immersive, and alive, a space of balance and harmony, shaped by the very logic of seamless repetition.
The jungle becomes a character in its own right, unfolding its colors and atmosphere, multicolored and vibrant, nocturnal and calm, or rendered in soft pastels.
The pattern displays Lively jungle mural, with the animals acting as focal points and the foliage providing continuous texture between them. Animals interlocked with tropical foliage compose a jungle menagerie—zebras, elephants, giraffe, leopards, rhino, monkeys, birds, and a lion layered among palms, fan leaves, and tropical floral. It is visually busy in a deliberate, way.
The high-density with minimal negative space, create an immersive surface and the strong vertical elements (palms and tree trunks) create a structure, while scattered flowers, birds, and leaves fill gaps to maintain a consistent cadence across the repeat.
The hand drawn feel illustrated elements come close to a classic jungle iconography and contribute by the color palette to an upbeat, energetic combination. Although it can be versatile: for instance, with a Pink background, the pattern is rather playful, pop, “daytime safari,” more whimsical and youthful, with a Dark background, its appears rather lush, premium, a “night canopy” mood with a more dramatic, sophisticated climate.

La première image mentale que j’ai eue lorsque j’ai commencé à imaginer une collection de motifs jungle sans raccord était celle d’un dessin qui capture l’essence d’un environnement naturel luxuriant et vibrant. Une fois soigneusement mis en répétition, la composition se connecte parfaitement aux bords, sans rupture visible, créant un flux continu et immersif de la scène forestière.
Dans la perspective d’une collection, j’ai décliné cette première image mentale dense aux éléments superposés, en différentes mises en page : certaines aux éléments entrelacées, d’autres élèves vers le haut, d’autres encore dispersées ou éparpillées en grappes…
Le nom de la collection vient d’une citation de Alejo Carpentier dans Les Pas perdus (1953) il parle d’une cathédrale verte qui “étire à l’infini (comme) un océan de feuillages où se mêlaient l’ombre et la lumière, le silence et le tumulte“ avec cette idée qui raisonne écologiquement selon laquelle la jungle garderait un peu de la mémoire du monde.
Je visualisais un espace exotique poétique quasi naïf puisé dans des univers comme celui du douanier rousseau, mais sans les créatures imaginaires ou surnaturelles. Dans ma collection”cathédrale verte, si la végétation est luxuriante, la faune exotique et les détails floraux colorés, le dessin garde un effet réaliste détaillé et un peu texturé donnant parfois l’impression du rendu d’image traditionnelles sorties un cabinet de curiosité, mais c’est aussi un tracé simplifié et occasionnellement stylisée, aux couleurs vibrantes créant un ensemble qui se veut aussi contemporain et moderne.
Dans mes recherches graphiques, il n’y avait rien qui évoquait le danger d’une nature sauvage. La luxuriance botanique est immersive et bruissante de vie et lumineuse en aucun cas oppressante ou hostile. La logique même de l’exercice du ‘motif sans couture’ induit une recherche d’équilibre et d’harmonie entre les motifs. La jungle de cette collection est un personnage à part entière déployant des couleurs et ses sons. Elle peut être suivant la tonalité de fond, multicolore calme nocturne ou pastelle.
Ce motif déploie une fresque déployant une jungle animée, où les animaux jouent le rôle de points focaux tandis que le feuillage assure une texture continue. Une végétation abondante s’entrelace, les animaux composent une véritable ménagerie de jungle — zèbres, éléphants, girafes, léopards, rhinocéros, singes, oiseaux et lion — disposés en strates parmi les palmiers, feuilles en éventail et fleurs tropicales. L’ensemble est volontairement dense et foisonnant.
La forte densité, associée à un espace négatif minimal, crée une surface immersive, tandis que les éléments verticaux marqués (palmiers et troncs d’arbres) structurent la composition. Des fleurs, oiseaux et feuillages dispersés viennent combler les interstices afin de maintenir une cadence régulière à travers la répétition du motif.
Le rendu du trait dessiné à la main s’inscrit dans une iconographie classique de la jungle et, associé à la palette de couleurs, contribue à une combinaison vive et énergique. Le motif reste toutefois très polyvalant : sur fond rose, il devient ludique et pop, évoquant un « safari de jour », plus fantaisiste et juvénile ; sur fond sombre, il apparaît plus luxuriant et premium, instaurant une ambiance de « canopée nocturne » au climat plus dramatique et sophistiqué.
